Poll: Canadians overwhelmingly want First Nations financial transparency

An Angus Reid survey finds 60% of Canadians believe Indigenous people should abide by the same rules as the rest of Canadians, while the other 40% said First Nations communities should be moving towards more independence.

The survey follows an argument made days before by law professor, Bruce Pardy, who called for an end to legal rights based on heritage, which he described as a contradiction to the principles of a free society and the rule of law. Prof. Pardy argues that recent court rulings—including the Cowichan First Nation’s title claim in B.C. and a New Brunswick case prioritizing Aboriginal title over private property—threaten universal property rights.
